Walmart unveiled new, AI-powered shopping tools designed to enhance customer satisfaction during the holidays by helping them find the products and deals they want.
Walmart said the company developed the tools, embedded in its app, to help consumers navigate their shopping trips and enjoy personalization in the company’s product offering.
The new tools approach shopper support in a variety of ways. For example, Deck the Halls in 3D, an AI-powered augmented reality feature, brings shoppers into designed spaces instead of leaving them to scroll through endless pages of home decor. AI helps transform simple product photos into 3D images, bringing immersive, shoppable scenes to life across the platform.
The new tools also include, Walmart noted:
- In-Store Savings Tool. Shoppers have asked for the ability to see what items are for sale in their local Walmart stores. The In-Store Savings Tool lets shoppers find savings with a single tap — whether price rollbacks, Black Friday deals or clearance bargains — and further filter by category and compare prices on one screen.
- Enhanced Search and Navigation. In-store shoppers can now search for items just as they would if they were checking out a product online and view in-stock availability. The tool shows an item’s location in the store.
- Easily Shop Your Wish List. Using a tool Walmart designed to turn aspiration into reality, shoppers can create and save gift ideas for everyone on their lists. When it’s time to shop, they can open the Walmart app in-store and, with a tap, sort their lists by aisle, turn store visits into organized shopping experiences.
- AI-Powered Party Planning. Walmart’s GenAI-powered and newly enhanced digital assistant, Sparky, now can assist consumers as they plan for festive activities. Informed about an occasion, Sparky can immediately craft a curated list of what shoppers might need from decor to champagne.
- AI-generated Audio Summaries. Product descriptions synthesized into short, digestible audio clips to help shoppers confidently purchase gifts on the go. The feature has initially rolled out to cover more than 1,000 premium beauty products.
“The most wonderful time of the year should be joyful, and with the power of AI and technology, we’re making that possible,” said Tracy Poulliot, Walmart U.S. senior vice president, shopping experiences. “Whether customers are holiday shopping in our stores or from the comfort of home, we’re giving them the tools to check off their lists quicker and easier than ever before. And they’re loving it. When they use the app while they shop in stores, they spend 25% more on average than on trips when they don’t use the app.”
