In a letter to customers, Bed Bath & Beyond executive chairman and CEO Marcus Lemonis detailed plans to lower prices at The Container Store and more closely align the retailer with Bed Bath & Beyond.
Lemonis said he spent time speaking with customers, store associates, vendors and industry partners as he evaluated The Container Store’s future. According to Lemonis, the feedback was consistent: Customers love The Container Store’s products, organization solutions and service, but many customers and longtime employees felt prices had become difficult to justify.
As a result, Lemonis said Bed Bath & Beyond challenged itself, its vendors and longstanding assumptions about pricing. The company is now resetting prices across thousands of The Container Store products, with changes continuing to roll out in stores and online.
The move is not intended as a temporary promotion or marketing event, Lemonis maintained, but rather a deliberate effort to better align pricing with customer expectations and perceived value.
Lemonis added that a review of the assortments and positioning of Bed Bath & Beyond and The Container Store convinced him the two brands belong together. According to Lemonis, both retailers are built around quality products, practical solutions and helping consumers create better homes.
When combined, the brands create an opportunity to demonstrate that quality and affordability can coexist while delivering a more convenient, consistent and customer-focused shopping experience, Lemonis stated.
As the company moves forward, value will remain a central focus, broadly defined as offering quality products and services with strong functionality at fair prices.
As a gesture to customers, Bed Bath & Beyond included a 20% off coupon valid at both Bed Bath & Beyond and The Container Store while the new pricing strategy is rolled out. Lemonis also provided an email address and encouraged customers to share feedback directly with the company.
