Wayfair’s Evolving Brick-and-Mortar Superstore Strategy Bound for Ohio in 2026

As Wayfair continues refining its physical store strategy, the company will open a new namesake retail location in Columbus, OH, in late 2026. At 70,000 square feet, the Ohio store will be about half the size of previously opened Wayfair superstores.

The Columbus location (rendering pictured above) will serve as the company’s prototype for a smaller-format concept, one designed to explore new approaches to bringing Wayfair’s shopping experience to consumers.

Plans for the Columbus store follow the opening of Wayfair’s first namesake brick-and-mortar operation in Wilmette, IL. Wayfair has announced plans for stores based on the 150,000-square-foot Wilmette format in Atlanta and Denver. The company is developing a somewhat smaller, 114,000-square-foot store in Yonkers, NY, just north of New York City.

Wayfair reported it intends to expand the company’s physical retail footprint while testing different formats that balance scale, experience and convenience. Wayfair said it plans to use the Columbus store to evaluate how a smaller footprint can promote customer engagement and efficiency while maintaining inspiration and convenience, Wayfair noted.

The Columbus store will offer customers the kind of wide assortment they expect from Wayfair across multiple departments, including furniture, housewares, appliances, mattresses and décor, along with curated Wayfair Verified products hand-selected by company experts, the company maintained. Complimentary design service areas will provide shoppers with personalized support, whether they are making small updates to their homes or full-scale room refreshes. As with the larger stores, consumers will be able to take many products offered home with them and have larger items such as sofas, dining sets and outdoor furniture delivered through Wayfair’s logistics network.

“As we scale our retail strategy, we are focused on both expansion and experimentation,” said Liza Lefkowski, Wayfair vice president of merchandising and stores, in announcing the Columbus store plans. “Not only are we thrilled to open our first Ohio store, we are excited to see how customers respond to our efforts to provide a comprehensive home shopping experience in a smaller footprint.”
