Thrift retail is rapidly evolving along with consumer acceptance of repurposed merchandise, and now The Salvation Army is taking it into the virtual world with Roblox.
Dubbed Thrift Score, The Salvation Army designed the operation to engage Gen Z and Gen Alpha where they already shop, the organization stated, encouraging them to play and express themselves while considering thrift-inspired digital finds for their in-game avatars.
The Salvation Army called Thrift Score the first digital resale store on Roblox, one that will introduce its brand to a new generation of consumers via avatar shopping within the Roblox universe. Roblox has integrated Thrift Score into several of its popular games such as Seaboard City and Daycare Party.
The Thrift Score operation also features special, limited-edition user generated content items donated by Roblox creators, with select designs spotlighted throughout the store. Influencers participating in the operation influencers include @PrestonPlayz, @BriannaPlayz and @RussoPlays, each contributing their own take on thrift-inspired digital fashion.
Thrift Score reimagines a Salvation Army Thrift Store as a fully explorable and shoppable digital environment, introducing the brand and its thrift offering to an audience that might have never visited a second-hand store in the real world. Stocked with creator and brand collaborations, player donations and digital replicas of real Salvation Army items, players can browse racks to uncover rare and limited edition items at accessible price points, ensuring broad participation across Roblox’s player base.
As with the real world, proceeds generated by the Thrift Score will support The Salvation Army’s mission to help people in need through rehabilitation, recovery and community programs nationwide.

By bringing our thrift store into Roblox, we’re introducing a new generation to the spirit of thrifting at Salvation Army in a way that feels natural to how they explore, play, and express themselves today.”
