Posted In: Retail Articles

Ikea continues pursuing new ways to reach consumers in the United States with the opening its first store in Oklahoma and planned participation in the forthcoming inaugural DIY CON in Dallas.

The first Oklahoma Ikea officially opened in Tulsa on October 23, and the company characterized it as a milestone in the company’s long-term growth strategy to become more accessible, affordable and sustainable. The 51,000-square-foot Tulsa location is another of the Ikea’s small superstore formats. Reduced in scale from the company’s full-sized superstores, which can approach and even surpass 300,000 square feet in size, the Tulsa store offers a broad Ikea product presentation, including fully furnished room vignettes. Shoppers will find more than 5,000 products on display, with a selection of more than 3,000 available for immediate takeaway, including home furnishing accessories and more than 250 smaller furniture items.

“Opening Ikea Tulsa is an important milestone in our journey to bring Ikea closer to the many people,” said Rob Olson, Ikea U.S. deputy country retail manager. “By combining the inspiration and selection of an Ikea store with convenient digital ordering and flexible pickup and delivery offerings, we’re making it easier for customers across the region to access affordable, well-designed home furnishings in ways that fit seamlessly into their lives.”

In its planned DIY CON initiative, Ikea will showcase storage products at the November 6-8 consumer home improvement event in Dallas while teaching attendees how  to use them to personalize various home spaces. Abbey Stark, home furnishing direction leader at Ikea U.S., and DIY and lifestyle creator Imani Keal will co-host a workshop to share insights on interior design, organization and creative do-it-yourself projects. Among the points of workshop discussion is approachable, affordable organizing concepts, including ideas inspired by vertical storage and multifunctional furnishings.

“At Ikea, we believe practical storage solutions can help create a better everyday life at home,” Stark noted. “We’re excited to exhibit at DIY CON and inspire attendees with tips for customizing products and creating an organized, personalized space. Insights from our Life at Home research shed light on how people use storage in their homes, and we look forward to sharing affordable, actionable ideas with the DIY CON community.”
