Ikea Celebrates 40 Years in U.S. With Dining-Themed NYC Pop-Up

Ikea U.S. is marking 40 years in the United States and the global debut of Ikea meatballs with an immersive pop-up experience showcasing new cooking and dining essentials, including a limited-edition Vinterfint tabletop and a home decor collection developed with architect-turned designer Gustaf Westman.

The Ikea House Warming pop-up, which will operate from October 2 through 26 in New York City’s Union Square, is part of a promotion that will continue through June of next year that also includes the introduce of more than 200 new products connected to cooking and eating, ranging from dining tables and storage solutions that help prevent food waste to a more versatile and smarter kitchen range, the company noted.

Ikea is inviting consumers to step into the heart of the home, the kitchen, and journey through the House Warming pop-up to enjoy a Swedish twist on cooking and eating. Visitors will experience a journey of all things food from preparing and cooking, setting and serving, eating and cleaning, to storing and organizing, Ikea asserted. Consumers can purchase products directly from the House Warming shop or check out its online version, which lets customers know when items from the collection have been rolled out to their local stores and if they are available for delivery.

Activities for guests at the House Warming include a daily (m)eatball happy hour, a children’s scavenger hunt, a 40th anniversary photo moment, Frakta bag personalization and a kitchen planning studio, as well as a variety of kitchen demos and tastings that show how easy cooking and eating with Ikea can be.

The Ikea in-store celebration of its 40th U.S. anniversary has already launched, with 40 weeks of deals through June 29, 2026. Customers can take advantage of exclusive product offers, limited-edition Ikea apparel and special in-store events as part of the celebration, Ikea maintained.

The 12-piece Gustaf Westman x Vinterfint limited-edition collection, the designer’s first-ever partnership with Ikea, encompasses products that bring a playful, sculptural aesthetic to the company’s seasonal line-up, it stated. The collection reinterprets Swedish holiday traditions with a modern, inclusive and merry twist while honoring rituals of gathering, light and food, Ikea added. Products include porcelain plates and cups, candleholders, lighting, sculptural vases and the Ikea meatball plate.

“With Ikea House Warming, we wanted to go beyond showcasing our delicious food options and highlight how Ikea has a solution for every aspect of cooking and eating,” said Paul Anderson, home furnishing and retail design leader at Ikea U.S. “We’re providing an immersive experience in New York City where you can shop, taste and dream the possibilities of creating your own space at home to gather and connect around food. We’re demonstrating how joyful and sustainable your home can be with products that are affordable, accessible and designed to inspire life in and around the kitchen.”
