Swedish home furnishings superstore operator Ikea plans to move into Syracuse, NY, by taking over an 88,500 square-foot former At Home location at the city’s Destiny USA shopping mall, the mall’s owner reported.
Unlike some of the smaller Plan and Order locations Ikea has opened in recent years, the Syracuse Ikea will include the retailer’s signature showrooms and a marketplace, as well as a central planning area where customers work out home furnishing combinations for spaces including kitchens, bedrooms and bathrooms with support from an IKEA team member, Destiny USA management reported. Famous for its mammoth showrooms, with the largest being a 456,000 square foot location in Burbank, CA, Ikea has been opening smaller store formats to accommodate more communities where its full-sized operations might not be consistent with market dynamics.
“Welcoming this iconic, globally loved brand is one of the most exciting moments in our company’s history, and we couldn’t be prouder,” noted Stephen Congel, CEO of Pyramid Management Group, which owns Destiny USA. “A huge shout out to the incredible teams at both Pyramid and Ikea for their hard work and determination in bringing this vision to life. This game-changing addition is yet another reason why Destiny USA continues to lead the way in shopping, dining, and entertainment across the region.”
