Etsy has announced that it is partnering with OpenAI, allowing consumers in the United States searching for items on ChatGPT to purchase Etsy products that surface in search results directly on the platform.
Traffic to retail sites from generative AI sources, such as ChatGPT, has increased 4,700% over the last year, according to Rafe Colburn, Etsy’s chief product and technology officer. Etsy is also moving to employ additional technology to help its shoppers, he added. For example, Etsy is collaborating with a tech partner to integrate product discovery into mobile experiences. If shoppers come across a hat while scrolling through social media and it sparks their interest, AI-powered visual search will connect them to similar items on Etsy.
