Introducing the 2025 IHA State of the Industry Report

the 2025 IHA State of the Industry, the home and housewares industry’s first total market research report examining U.S. retail sales volume by category, retail sales percentages by channel, consumer purchase intent by category and consumer lifestyle values and drivers.

The International Housewares Association (IHA) has launched the 2025 IHA State of the Industry report, a new total market resource for the home and housewares industry.

The first of the report’s three installments, which provides data and analysis on U.S. market size by category and retail channel, has been released by HomePage News, the official media partner of the IHA State of the Industry.

“In today’s challenging economic climate, buyers and sellers of home and housewares goods are being asked to navigate a complicated selling environment with many factors out of their control,” said Derek Miller, IHA president and CEO. “The new IHA State of the Industry report provides a wealth of information to help them make the best strategic decisions for their customers, partners and companies.”

The 2025 IHA State of the Industry will be published by HomePage News in three parts. The newly released first installment focuses on 2024 retail sales data for small appliances and housewares; the second installment will center on 2025 purchase intent by key housewares categories; and the final installment will delve deeper into consumer values and lifestyle trends driving the business in 2025 and beyond.

  • Part 1: MarketScope — Market sales data on the total U.S. housewares business and key housewares categories, as well as sales by retail channel. Data is being made available through IHA’s partnership with market research and analytics firm Circana. (Released May 1)
  • Part 2: MarketOutlook — A detailed look at consumer purchase intent over the next year, as well as the key product features, benefits and other factors consumers expect to direct their purchase decisions. Features exclusive data commissioned by IHA from Morning Consult. (Available in June)
  • Part 3: MarketWatch—In-depth analysis of the primary values and trends influencing consumer attitudes, behaviors and home lifestyle preferences. Features exclusive data commissioned by IHA from Springboard Futures. (Available in July)

On a macro level, the MarketScope reports that the home and housewares industry was one of just a few industries across general merchandise that experienced growth in 2024. Specifically, small appliance and housewares retail sales in 2024, as measured by Circana retail tracking, registered 1.2% increase compared to 2024. Joe Derochowski, Circana vice president and home industry advisor, said industry growth was driven by 1) consumers eating more at home, 2) consumers entertaining more at home, 3) high frequency products purchased during the pandemic hitting the replacement phase, 4) changes in weather patterns and 5) innovative new products hitting the market.
