WSJ: Amazon Planning Small Physical Department Stores

Third-Party Sellers Flourish on Amazon Prime Day 2021

Amazon is planning department store-like physical retail locations, possibly in California and Ohio, according to a report in the Wall Street Journal.

The stores would complement the company’s delivery network and existing physical operations, including Whole Foods Markets, Amazon Fresh and Amazon Go. The small-format Amazon department stores, at about 30,000 square feet, would extend the company’s capabilities in selling household products, apparel, electronics and more, with private-label goods prominent, the Wall Street Journal report stated,
