Walmart Announces Partnership With Green Dot Bank

Doubling down on the early season holiday promotions, Walmart is announcing the return of its month-long savings event Black Friday Deals for Days.

And in another initiative with holiday ramifications, Walmart is launching a new platform designed around creators and influencers. Under the name Walmart Creator, the platform design makes it a one-stop portal that allows content developers to readily monetize interactions with Walmart. The company indicated that it believes anyone can be a creator and the initiative will democratize the tools and resources required to become one.

The Black Friday Deals for Days announcement comes after significant pre-holiday promotional events from Amazon, Target and Kohl’s, among others.

As it has over the past two years, Walmart will offer Black Friday-style savings over three events throughout November and cap off a month of deals with Cyber Monday. New this year, Walmart’s Black Friday Deals for Days events will begin on Walmart.com every Monday in November. In addition, the company is bringing back its Early Access benefit for paid Walmart+ members that allows them to tap discounts seven hours before the scheduled start times for the three events on Walmart.com.

Walmart emphasized that it has made significant price investments to offer customers bigger savings this year across an assortment of Black Friday items with deeper discounts across home, electronics, toys and apparel as well as more Walmart-exclusive items than ever. Walmart will feature brands such as Apple, Dyson, LEGO and LOL Surprise!, it maintained, and has prepared for months to ensure a strong inventory of in-stock Black Friday deals for its customers all November long.

On the virtual side of the business, Walmart has moved to make online shopping for Black Friday easier than ever, the company asserted. Walmart.com and the Walmart app will feature a streamlined Black Friday site experience that highlights the best deals in one easy-to-navigate digital destination, making it easier for customers to save time and money while they shop. Customers will be able to see real-time pickup and delivery options for Black Friday items as well.

“Black Friday has evolved over the years from a single day to an entire season and is without a doubt the most anticipated shopping event of the year,” said Charles Redfield, executive vp and chief merchandising officer for Walmart U.S., “Our customers are counting on us more than ever to help them find the season’s best gifts while delivering incredible savings like only Walmart can. That’s why we continue to challenge ourselves to offer an unparalleled Black Friday experience each year, giving customers more of what they love: more opportunities to shop even bigger savings on Walmart’s best assortment of gifts, easily and conveniently, online or in our stores.”

As for the platform initiative, creators who sign up can access thousands of products and get the chance to earn revenue. Creators can earn commissions on sales they refer with no cap. Platform users can share product links to any social platform or group of their choice, receive product recommendations based on interests and affinities, and collect valuable performance data to help grow their community and following.

Walmart has been an early pioneer in the social commerce space, it asserted, and is consistently testing and learning in new channels, including shoppable livestreams, with the goal of better serving customers by meeting them when and how they want to shop. Walmart Creator further enables shoppers to shorten the distance between inspiration and purchase, the company pointed out.

Walmart is launching its creator initiative in beta ahead of the holiday season to put potential program partners in a strong position to earn while also continuing to evolve and optimize the platform before a full launch in 2023, the company explained. In the platform, creators can tap carefully curated product collections to inspire their next content story and generate affiliate product links for their posts. They then can track and view performance in Walmart Creator’s analytics dashboard to understand how customers engaged with the posted products they featured. Creators can also apply to take part in any upcoming brand campaigns.

“We know our customers are inspired by the content and stories they see from their favorite influencers in their social feeds every day,” William White, Walmart U.S. chief marketing officer stated. “This next step in our strategy will help fuel inspiration for our customers by connecting their favorite creators directly with our brand and the brands they love at Walmart.”
