Posted In: Retail Articles

Walgreens Boots Alliance has announced three key executive leadership appoints, naming Tracey Brown president of retail products and chief customer officer for Walgreens, a new position, Jeff Gruener, senior vp and CFO, for Walgreens, and Danielle Gray, evp and global chief legal officer for Walgreens parent WBA.

In the newly created position, Brown will oversee customer experience across all consumer touchpoints and help to create and execute key strategies that move the business forward in a complex and dynamic competitive landscape, WBA stated. She will lead the visioning, leadership, strategic direction and performance of the customer experience, developing a unique and modern customer value proposition. In addition, she will oversee Walgreens’ marketing and merchandising functions, responsible for further accelerating the company’s digital transformation, to create seamless integration across all channels, in-store, mobile and online, the company noted, to provide a unified, consistent brand experience.

Prior to moving over to Walgreens, Brown was American Diabetes Association CEO, and before that, she was svp/operations and chief experience officer for Walmart/Sam’s Club, Walgreens indicated.

Gruener served in a number of roles of increasing responsibility over his 12 years with Walmart, including svp/finance and strategy, svp/merchandising operations, vp/finance for Sam’s Club and vp/global procurement. He also was involved with Walmart’s healthcare offerings for a time during his tenure, Walgreens pointed out, with financial oversight of health and wellness, including pharmacy.

Gray was svp, chief legal and administrative officer and corporate secretary, Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina.

“I am pleased to welcome Danielle, Tracey and Jeff to the WBA family,” said Roz Brewer, WBA CEO, in announcing the executive appointments. “They will be instrumental in continuing to build momentum across our business as we further innovate and work to define the future of health and well-being in the communities we serve for many years to come. I’m confident we will have the right leadership teams in place, bringing new energy and a wealth of experience to achieve our business and growth objectives.”
