Facebook is bolstering its marketplace operation with connections to Poshmark and eBay, as well as with new ways to connect over listings and Meta AI integrations developed to make it easier for consumers to shop for in-demand product categories including home decor, fashion and vehicles.
According to Facebook, one in four young adult people in the United States who use the social media channel daily visit the marketplace operation. In what it is calling a “glow up,” Facebook is launching a feature dubbed Collections that enables shoppers to create marketplace group listings and invite friends to join. Facebook also is testing collaborative buying, so a shopper can invite a friend to join any chat with a seller, making it easier to negotiate prices, coordinate pickup and get answers to inquiries made as a team.
Also, shoppers now can react and comment directly on marketplace listings and help others learn about item quality and discover unique finds, Facebook reported. The marketplace will learn what interests shoppers based on likes, and it will present additional items aligned with those interests in an effort to make shopping more personalized and relevant.
Facebook also is enhancing shopper interactions using AI. When they chat with a marketplace seller, Facebook pointed out, shoppers will see a Suggested Questions to Ask button they can tap to get advice on relevant queries based on details from the listing and the conversation.
Meanwhile, Facebook’s enhanced marketplace integration with eBay and Poshmark inventory gives shoppers more options across in-demand categories. Partner listings are marked with specific icons integrated throughout marketplace feeds so consumers will see them while browsing. Consumers will see partner listings and seller information on Facebook marketplace product details pages. When a shopper is are ready to purchase, marketplace will connect to the partner page listing the product desired for checkout.
As the shopping visit ends, Facebook added, marketplace shoppers will see total costs, including shipping and tax, upfront and receive notifications as order status changes to provide clarity at every purchasing step.
