Freshlink Product Development, LLC, doing business as Prepara, announced it has been issued a U.S. patent covering the design of its Salad Pod food container.
Prepara’s Salad Pod is a lightweight, jar-shaped, break-resistant plastic container for on-the-go salads and other foods. It enables vertical layering of salad ingredients and features a front hatch that converts the unit into a bowl, as well as a leakproof dressing capsule under the lid. The Salad Pod received U.S. Design No. D1,115,456 S, on March 3, 2026, according to the company, adding additional patents related to the company’s Pod series of containers are currently pending.
Features include:
- Vertical layering to keep ingredients separate and maintain textures and flavors.
- A leakproof dressing capsule in the form of a 2.5-ounce container that secures under the lid.
- An ergonomic design and secure construction that lets consumers mix up their salads with a few shakes of the container.
- An innovative front hatch that can transform the Salad Pod into a tabletop bowl.
Prepara officials said they have identified multiple products in the marketplace over the past six months that closely replicate its patented Salad Pod design. In response, the company reported it is taking steps to protect its intellectual property and reinforce the importance of original design within the housewares category by having products removed from various retail platforms. The company added that it is prepared to enforce its patent and defend its intellectual property, including pursuing injunctive relief and monetary damages where appropriate.
“Prepara has a strong track record of successfully enforcing its patents across both retail and e-commerce channels and will continue to actively monitor the market and take action as needed,” said Michael Karyo, Prepara’s senior vice president. “This effort underscores Prepara’s ongoing commitment to innovation and to maintaining a fair, competitive marketplace for thoughtfully designed housewares products.”
