Dolly Parton’s legendary six-decade career as a singer, songwriter, actress, business leader and philanthropist didn’t reach the housewares market until 2024 with the retail launch of her licensed kitchenware collection.
It didn’t take long for Parton’s enduring star power to leave a bright mark on retail with an expanding home and housewares collection designed to reflect the warm hospitality inspired by her humble Tennessee roots.
On Tuesday, with the passing of the country music legend at 80, Parton was remembered by her licensed housewares collaborator, Lifetime Brands, as a universally admired icon spanning cultural and generational boundaries.
“We are heartbroken to hear of Dolly Parton’s passing,” said Dan Siegel, president of Lifetime Brands. “Dolly was an unmatched force across music, film, and culture — a national treasure in every sense. Early in our discussions around licensing her brand, we mistakenly assumed her reach was primarily tailored to older audiences. Engaging with our younger associates proved how effortlessly she transcended generation gaps, commanding reverence from lifelong fans and younger audiences alike.
“Above all, we deeply admire her philanthropic vision,” Siegel continued, noting Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library book-giving initiative inspired by her father, Robert Lee Parton, Sr., and his own illiteracy plight. “Honoring her father’s legacy by founding the world’s largest childhood literacy charity speaks volumes about her heart. She was truly a one-of-a-kind gem, and her impact will endure for generations.”
Lifetime Brands entered into a licensing agreement with Parton in 2023, as she was enjoying a resurgence following her 2022 induction into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame, and just before the release of what would be her final album, “Rockstar,” featuring Parton collaborating with rock musicians on classic rock hits.
Nashville-based Dollar General, noting its shared Tennessee roots with Parton, rolled out the initial Dolly Parton kitchenware line in 2024, and it has been a core retail partner in the expansion of the Dolly Parton home collection over the past two years. The Dolly Parton program now encompasses a wide range of kitchenware, tableware, serveware, pantryware, barware, insulated beverageware, storage, décor and holiday offerings.
“Our shared humble beginnings make this a special program for Dollar General,” Dollar General COO Emily Taylor said when the retailer launched the Dolly Parton collection in 2024.
