Pantone’s Color Trends Point to Calm, Joy in 2027, Eiseman Says in Inspired Home Show Keynote

Color trends for 2027 will reflect consumers’ growing desire for calm, comfort and joy at home, according to Leatrice (Lee) Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute, who shared insights from the Pantone View Home + Interiors 2027 forecast during a keynote session at The Inspired Home Show 2026.

Eiseman discussed Sense-Abilities as the theme of the Pantone View Home + Interiors 2027 forecast and examined the role of Cloud Dancer, Pantone’s 2026 Color of the Year, during her keynote address, “Sense-Abilities — The Most Directional Color and Design Trends.”

Eiseman, a globally recognized color expert and director of the Eiseman Center for Color Information and Training, said color trends increasingly reflect emotional and sensory connections in a fast-changing world.

Cloud Dancer: 2026 Color of the Year

Eiseman discussed Cloud Dancer, a neutral white, which was named as the color of the year. While some may argue white is not a color, she said its psychological impact makes it an important design tool.

“It opens vistas where our creativity can come through. When we’ve got a lot of cacophony going on in the world around us, we need that clean slate,” she said.

Cloud Dancer balances warm and cool tones and reflects a broader desire for quiet and clarity in home environments. “A hushed whisper in a noisy world, Cloud Dancer demonstrates a desire for peace and for clarity,” she said.

Eiseman said white remains a versatile and timeless choice across industries, noting that it appears frequently in fashion, including Winter Olympic team uniforms and quilted applications for home and personal accessories that span seasons.

“When used in the home, white is considered a staple, dependable choice, and when used in clothing, it’s an inevitable classic,” she said. “A conscious statement of simplification, Cloud Dancer enhances our focus, providing release from the distraction of external influences.”

Influences on 2027 Color Trends

Eiseman said a variety of cultural forces shape emerging color trends, including fashion, film, technology, nature and broader cultural shifts.

“There are emotional and psychological aspects of color. Trend has reason behind it,” she said.

The “Sense-Abilities” theme reflects a growing emphasis on sensory engagement in product design. Eiseman said brands can create deeper consumer connections by considering how products engage multiple senses, including sight, touch, smell, taste and sound.

She noted that a product’s physical appearance and color remain among the most important factors influencing purchase decisions, making multi-sensory design an important opportunity for brands.

The approach translates into color palettes that draw from calming natural tones, nostalgic influences and vibrant hues seen in popular culture.

Seven Color Palettes for 2027

The Pantone View Home + Interiors 2027 forecast identifies seven key color palettes:

  • Delight — Summer at its softest, celebrating life’s simple pleasures and sensory joys with muted tones of a summer meadow.
  • Allure — Dramatic, elegant colors inspired by classic Hollywood glamour.
  • Lucid — Cool, imaginative tones representing clarity, transparency and daydreams, featuring blues and greens.
  • Hush — Quiet light and muted midtones associated with calm, health and wellness.
  • Honest — Warm hues including browns, reds and oranges inspired by comfort foods and homemade baked goods. “This palette goes well with mauve,” said Eiseman.
  • Grounded — Nature-inspired tones featuring organic shades and earth colors that mix easily with items consumers already own.
  • Elation — Contrasting, playful colors forming a vibrant and eclectic palette.
