Target Recruiting Holiday Shoppers to the ‘Academy of Giftology’

Posted In: Retail Articles

Target has launched the “Academy of Giftology” as its central consumer marketing campaign this holiday season.

Target stated that it is leaning into what makes holiday shopping meaningful by helping consumers find affordable gifts they look forward to giving. Target cited market research showing that 60% of consumers feel emotionally fulfilled by thoughtful gift-giving and that finding the perfect gift matters more than digging up the cheapest one.

As Target advances its marketing plans, the “Academy of Giftology” campaign features nine advertising spots that will appear across broadcast, streaming, audio, OOH and social platforms.

Digital will serve as a primary format for the “Academy of Giftology,” for which Target will highlight curated gift lists for teens, babies, hosts, teachers and others as it also engages shoppers via its Ask Target AI Assistant, Holiday Wish List, and Holiday Kids Catalog.

Through social media, Target intends to introduce interactive content, creators and real-world activations that offer fresh gifting expertise tailored to each platform. Social-first content will bring the characters and personalities from the academy campaign to consumers through video,  including “What Makes You So Confident? The Academy Podcast “and “Perfect Gift Rapid Fire.”

Social content will spotlight Target’s real-world activations, including “Acts of Giftness,” showcasing moments of surprise and delight in shopping, the company noted.

Target created an original score to tie the marketing campaign together. It includes the song “Gift It Your All” by three-time Emmy-nominated composer Joshua Moshier, featuring vocals by Moshier and singer/songwriter Kotomi.
