Target Adding Stores, Expanding Next-Day Delivery This Spring

Posted In: Retail Articles

Target is opening six new stores in May even as it expands delivery capabilities.

Target is expanding next day delivery this spring to incorporate 60% of the population in the United States and more than 50 top metropolitan areas. Most items offered by Target for shipment are eligible for next-day delivery, the company noted, including 85% of what it sells in stores. Next-day delivery is free to all Target customers for orders of more than $35. Members of Target’s Circle 360 loyalty program or shoppers using their Target Circle Card for purchases get next-day delivery free with no minimum order.

The new stores slated for May — debuting in Arizona, Missouri, New Jersey and North Carolina — are part of plans to open 30 Target locations this year under a $5 billion 2026 capital investment program that also includes more than 130 remodels. The company emphasized that it intends to build more than 300 new stores by 2035.

Of the stores opening in May, five exceed the company’s 125,000-square-foot chain average as the company shifts gears from opening smaller units, many in urban locations, to larger, new locations with more emphasis on suburban communities.

The debut locations are, Target stated:

  • Buckeye AZ, 148,000 square feet
  • Casa Grande, AZ, 127,000 square feet
  • St. Louis, 149,000 square feet
  • Jersey City, NJ, 119,000 square feet
  • Wilmington, NC, 128,000 square feet
  • Selma, NC 129,000 square feet

“Our continued commitment to opening new stores is really about showing up for our guests and our communities, and it starts with our incredible store team members,” said Target chief stores officer Adrienne Costanzo. “These new stores give our teams the tools and environments to bring our merchandising strengths to life, create easier and more inspiring shopping experiences, and use technology to move smarter and faster every day. It’s how we keep growing thoughtfully, stay connected to our communities and make Target an even better place to work and shop.”
