Target, renewing its commitment to physical stores, plans to open eight of 20 planned for 2025 during the summer, including a long-awaited location in Astoria, NY, in the New York City borough of Queens.
Three of these newest Target stores are larger than the company’s 125,000-square-foot chain average, the company noted in a fact sheet. Two of the brick-and-mortar stores debuting this summer, one achin California and Florida, top 140,000 square feet. Some stores are well below the company’s average store size, particularly those in densely populated communities, as with the Astoria store in Queens, the smallest of the new Target locations opening this summer.
Target reported the summertime store openings aren’t just accommodating walk-in shoppers. Each gives the company the ability to serve even more consumers in the communities where they are opening by applying its stores-as-hubs model. Target characterized the stores as shopping destinations and e-commerce fulfillment hubs for guests. Target brick-and-mortar locations fulfill 95% of the company’s digital orders, including via same-day delivery service, the retailer said.
Target identified the summer stores openings, slated for July 20, as in:
- Astoria, NY, at 41,000 square feet
- Jurupa Valley, CA, at 147,000 square feet
- Guilford, CT, at 78,000 square feet
