A survey of information technology executives released by UiPath, an agentic AI services firm, demonstrated the next step in artificial intelligence as a commercial function is at hand with most large companies in the United States looking to explore agentic AI.
The survey results arrive not long after Walmart detailed its interest in agentic AI
In the survey, 93% of IT executives working for companies generating revenue of a billion dollars or more were extremely or very interested in agentic AI, with 32% saying they had plans to invest in the technology within six months.
Some 90% of executives surveyed said they have business processes agentic AI could improve. At the same time, 37% said they are using agentic AI in some form.
The benefits they expect from agentic AI include improving oversight of workflows, selected by 58%; increasing application integration, by 53%, and automating complex workflows, by 52%.
Agentic AI, with its ability to plan and make automated decision, still raises some concerns. At the top, 56% of executives expressed concern about IT security, while 37% are worried about the cost of implementation, and 35% are unsure about integration with existing systems.
UiPath noted the business world is entering an era when advanced AI agents and automation will interact with people in ways that will improve the operation of complex business processes. However, the company noted large language models, or LLMs, as used today are limited in their ability to offer actionable intelligence to workers, integrate business systems and ensure governance and security in a way that advances trust. In that case, real artificial intelligence advancement in the business sector requires a further evolution to reach its potential, and agentic AI is a step in that direction, UiPath indicated.
