Sur La Table is launching a peer-to-peer resale marketplace for kitchenware as a new approach to enhancing its relationship with home cooks.
Second Servings by Sur La Table connects consumers ready to sell their cookware, electrics and other kitchen tools with home cooks looking for value compared to new product prices, the company noted. In reaching out to consumers in a new way, Sur La Table said it is making cooking gear attainable for shoppers who might otherwise do without it, while also supporting sustainability by extending products’ lifespans.
As consumers increasingly embrace buying and selling used products, Second Servings is Sur La Table’s way to take a position in a resale landscape that, until now, has mostly lived outside the kitchen, the company pointed out. Built specifically to meet the needs of home cooks, the marketplace pairs high-quality tools with the kitchen enthusiasts who can make the most of them, the retailer said.
Second Savings has the potential to strengthen the relationship between home cooks and Sur La Table in the selling and payment process. The marketplace makes it easy for sellers to list eligible pre-owned premium cookware, bakeware, knives, electrics and kitchen tools, Sur La Table maintained. Once a buyer purchases an item, the seller ships it using a prepaid label. Sellers can choose payment in cash or, if they prefer, Sur La Table store credit.
Sur La Table has partnered with Archive to launch the marketplace. Archive is a specialist in resale and will support the platform by providing customer support, payment processing and logistics, Sur La Table indicated.
“Today’s home cooks are thinking differently about how they shop for, invest in, and dispose of the products they love,” said Dan Goldman, Sur La Table president. “Second Servings lets us serve home cooks on both sides of that equation: helping sellers give a favorite piece its next chapter versus tossing it into a landfill and helping younger and price-sensitive buyers discover premium kitchenware they might not otherwise consider purchasing. Companies that care about their customers and the planet, as well as creating greater accessibility for all Americans, need to lead on circularity, and Second Servings is proof that in this category, seconds are always welcome.”
