Numerator: Gen Z Biggest Mother’s Day Gift Givers

In a look at intentions for celebrating Mother’s Day 2025, Numerator determined that 74% of consumers plan to celebrate the event this year, with 58% planning to spend between $25 and $100 on purchases.

The most popular consumer plans for Mother’s Day 2025 are gathering with family and friends, at 41%; giving gifts, at 33%; going out to eat, at 32%; cooking or baking at home, at 22%; and grilling or barbecuing, at 17%. 

Other Numerator holiday findings included:

  • 89% of Mother’s Day celebrators intend to buy something for the holiday, with top planned purchases being food, at 53%; gifts, at 50%; and alcoholic beverages, at 16%.
  • Among Mother’s Day celebrators planning to buy gifts, the most likely purchases are flowers or plants, at 52%; gift cards, at 36%; spa or beauty products, 20%; jewelry, at 19%; and apparel, 16%. 
  • Gen Z celebrators are the most likely to give gifts, at 50% versus 33% for those celebrating overall, and they are three and a half times more likely to purchase decorations than other generations, 21% versus 6%. 
  • Boomers+ who plan to purchase gifts are more likely to choose gift cards, at 45% versus 36% overall, while Millennials are more likely to purchase spa or beauty products, at 29% versus 20% overall. 
  • Mother’s Day celebrators are most likely to patronize big box retailers and grocery stores when buying their supplies, at 35%, followed by online retailers, at 31%, local shoppers/small businesses, at 22%, and restaurants, bars or food delivery services, at 16%.
