Nordstrom Blends Value, Experience in Holiday Retail Strategy

Holiday shoppers at Nordstrom will encounter a festive environment where value is essential, as each location will offer gift shops featuring 1,000 gifts, with 90% priced under $100 and 60% under $50.

A Nordstrom lookbook illustrating the range of gift items it has designated includes homewares, including a Yeti Rambler Stackable Cup for $30 and a Therabody Theraface Depuffing Wand for $169.99.

In addition, gift shoppers can access a holiday catalog featuring curated guides, an interactive online gift finder, a calendar packed with festive events and experiences, and, for the first time, Santa in every store, ready to pose for free photos with Nordstrom cardholders.

On Nordstrom.com, the company has created a Home Gifts destination that includes assortments under Cozy Gifts for Home, For the Party Host, Housewarming Gifts, Luxe Home Gifts, Stocking Stuffers and Wedding & Engagement Gifts.

Each in-store Nordstrom gift shop will feature an expanded assortment of categories that appeal to those purchasing for the holidays, including exclusive home essentials, beauty sets, accessories, toys and cozy robes, slippers and pajamas. Dedicated Gift Experts in every shop will provide personalized assistance to make holiday purchasing easier, the company pointed out.

Events range from Holiday Breakfasts for the family to beauty Glam Up Days. Nordstrom has more than 1,500 events slated across stores nationwide, the company noted. It will offer Nordy Club members exclusive shopping parties and special lounge access in select stores. In November, flagship stores in New York City and Seattle will host Oh, What Fun House, a quirky interactive experience, Nordstrom said, adding that it reflects Nordstrom’s “Oh, What Fun!” holiday marketing theme, which invites consumers into a world where holiday wishes come true.
