Macy’s has appointed Massimo Magni chief customer and digital officer to guide the company’s web-based strategy.

In his role, Macy’s stated, Magni will align customer-centric strategies that leverage data and analytics to enhance consumer shopping across touchpoints including the company’s e-commerce sites, mobile apps, marketplace, loyalty program and gift registry operations. As such, he will focus on introducing great products and differentiated experiences that provide customers with more choice, discovery and inspiration, Macy’s maintained. The company has charged Magni, along with his team, with enabling easy, personalized, convenient engagement across Macy’s and Bloomingdale’s digital platforms and bricks and mortar stores, where mobile app enhancements will make shopping more relevant and interactive, Macy’s reported.

Magni is a 20-plus-year veteran of McKinsey and Co, for which he most recently was a senior partner co-leading McKinsey’s Next Commerce and practices helping clients develop customer-centric and data-driven initiatives to drive profitable and sustainable growth.

Tony Spring, Macy’s president- and CEO-elect, said, “(Magni) brings to the team an innovative, customer-led mindset that will help advance our digital business and strengthen our customer relationships. His passion for and experience with portfolio optimization, e-commerce and digital analytics transformation makes him a great fit for the organization.”
