The Home Depot is laying off 800 employees concurrent with a plan to bring staffers back to its Atlanta headquarters office full time.
According to a Home Depot spokesperson, 800 roles associated with the Atlanta store support center have been eliminated. In response to a HomePage News inquiry after media reports about staffing changes, the spokesperson reported fewer than 150 workers at the retailer’s Atlanta store support center, Home Depot’s headquarters, are subject to the layoff, and the rest of the employees being let go have been working remotely.
The Home Depot issued a statement to HomePage News on the initiative, the company noted:
We’re simplifying our corporate operations to better support our stores and our customers. These changes include a reduction in roles associated with our store support center and a transition to a five-day in-office schedule for our corporate staff. Our goal is to drive greater agility and position the company to move faster and stay even more closely connected with our frontline associates.
Although it has maintained prominence in the home improvement retail sector, The Home Depot has suffered softening momentum after a period of solid growth in the COVID-19 pandemic and its immediate aftermath.
