Costco Wholesale Corp. posted net sales of $30.02 billion for the five-week fiscal month of September, up from $26.58 billion in the prior-year period.
Comparable sales, with the impact of fuel prices and foreign exchange rate fluctuations excluded, were up 7.6% year over year, with comps in the United States up 8%, those in Canada up 4.9% and those in other international markets up 7.7%. Digitally enabled comps rose 19.1% year over year in September, excluding foreign exchange effects, the company reported.
On a conference call, Costco said September comp traffic rose 4.3% in the U.S. versus the same month a year earlier.
By U.S. region, the Midwest, Southwest, and San Diego were strongest. By merchandising category, Non Foods were up high single digits year over year, with gift cards, housewares and sporting goods leading, according to Costco. Food & Sundries were up mid-single digits, while Fresh Foods were up mid-to-high single digits.
Costco noted Labor Day in the U.S. and Canada occurred one week later this year than in 2025. The company maintained that the shift positively impacted September total and comp sales by a little more than 50 basis points.
