Shun Cutlery Releases Shiranami Damascus Knife Series

Shun Cutlery plans to introduce a new high-end knife collection, Shiranami, on March 16, blending traditional Japanese blade-making techniques with a sculptural Damascus pattern and a distinctive blue handle.

Named for the Japanese term for “white-capped wave,” Shiranami draws inspiration from one of Japan’s more artistic motifs, the company said. The Damascus blade pattern is designed to capture a sense of movement and precision for a knife that is intentional, expressive and functional.

Each knife is hand-crafted in Seki City, Japan, using Shun’s proprietary 71-layer Dual Core Damascus steel. Alternating layers of VG10 and VG2 stainless steels are forged together to create a blade with remarkable edge retention, balance and control. The knives are sharpened to 16° on each side.

The series is finished with Prussian blue jute micarta handles, inspired by the pigment used in Japanese woodblock art. It is made to be rich in tone and texture, providing comfort, grip and visual distinction.

The Shiranami collection includes:

  • 8-Inch Chef’s Knife (MSRP $462)
  • 6.5-Inch Nakiri Knife (MSRP $462)
  • 4-Inch Paring Knife (MSRP $263)
  • 6.5-Inch Master Utility Knife (MSRP $412)
  • 7-Inch Santoku Knife (MSRP $462)
  • 6-Piece Knife Block Set (MSRP $1,781)

Shiranami will be available for purchase on ShunCutlery.com beginning March 16, 2026.

It will expand in Summer 2026 with the addition of a 9-Inch Bread Knife (MSRP $462), 6-Inch Boning Fillet Knife (MSRP $412), 5-Inch Steak Knife (MSRP $287) and 4-Piece Steak Knife Set (MSRP $999).
