Workshop at Macy’s Aids Diverse Entrepreneurs

Posted In: Retail Articles

The Workshop at Macy’s accelerator program is welcoming 25 business owners who offer products including home, beauty items, apparel and toys to its class of 2023.

The home participants are Aya & Pete, domoINK, Rochelle Porter, Surprise Powerz and Wax Buffalo.

The Workshop at Macy’s provides an opportunity for diverse and women-owned retail businesses, the company noted. Participants in the accelerator this spring will have a new opportunity to access Macy’s holistic supplier ecosystem, critical education and funding resources, new customers through a pop-up shop on macys.com and $250,000 in business grants, the company maintained.

Throughout the month, Workshop participants will get first-hand experience selling their products at scale via the digital pop-up shop on macys.com, the company indicated. After a Workshop graduation, participants will meet Macy’s buyers and digital marketplace teams, who will give them a shot at becoming vendors. All Workshop participants will have the opportunity to enter a pitch competition for a chance at a $100,000 business grant, a partnership with Macy’s sourcing team and other prizes. All participating businesses will receive a $5,000 business grant upon program competition. They also will get an introduction to S.P.U.R. Pathways: Shared Purpose, Unlimited Reach, a multiyear, multifaceted funding program developed by Macy’s and Momentus Capital to advance entrepreneurial growth, close wealth gaps and address systemic barriers faced by diverse-owned and underrepresented businesses.

The Workshop at Macy’s is part of the company’s Mission Every One program, which seeks to empower underrepresented entrepreneurs.

“For more than a decade, The Workshop at Macy’s has represented our ongoing commitment to amplify and uplift underrepresented businesses by providing entrepreneurs with a best-in-class development program,” said Michelle Wang, Macy’s vp, retail diversity strategy, in announcing the program. “Through Mission Every One, Macy’s is dedicated to reinventing and reimagining representation in retail by providing participants with the tools and resources to excel, and I’m thrilled for this year’s businesses to experience growth, continue to develop and create meaningful connections through The Workshop at Macy’s.”
