As a leading part of building out the company’s brick-and-mortar store portfolio, Walmart has debuted its first new supercenter in four years, with the Cypress, TX, location featuring “elevated” home, baby, pet and apparel departments.
The Cypress supercenter is part of a Walmart plan to build or convert more than 150 stores over the next several years, the company noted. In addition to Cypress, during 2025, Walmart plans to open new supercenters in Frisco, TX; Melissa, TX; Eagle Mountain, UT; and Eastvale, CA. It also plans to introduce Neighborhood Markets stores in Tuscaloosa, AL, Milton, FL, and Pace, FL, during the year. After conversion, stores currently operating in Mountain View, CA, and East Windsor, NJ, will reopen as supercenters by year’s end, Walmart indicated.
The Cypress supercenter sets a new standard in retail, Walmart asserted, blending convenience, technology and elevated experiences to suit how consumers shop today. Walmart designed the Cypress Supercenter to make shopping faster, easier and more connected, it stated. The store features updated Walmart branding, augmented services, innovative technology and reimagined layouts in a store presentation that incorporates refined feature displays that help designate departments such as home. Tech upgrades include store-wide digital shelf labels.
The Cypress supercenter retains Walmart’s everyday low prices positioning and offers broader assortments across key categories including home. Customers will see QR codes throughout the store that unlock digital tools, resources and instant views on the expanded assortment as Walmart advances its initiatives to blend physical and digital operation in a seamless omni encounter.
The store also features a full-service fuel station, a modern pharmacy including drive-through, and local products, regional and popular favorites and a Hispanic bakery section, fresh tortilla maker and sushi station. Customer-centric amenities include a Mother’s Room and an Auto Care Center. Shoppers can use the Walmart app to engage with the store, including scheduling TV mounting, working with registries or booking tire installation. The store will offer consumers curbside pickup as well as Walmart’s Fast Delivery, within three hours, Express Delivery, within 30 minutes, and InHome direct to their doorsteps, kitchens or garages.
“This store was built with the customer in mind,” said John Furner, president and CEO, Walmart U.S., in introducing the Cypress supercenter. “It’s part of a larger transformation happening across our stores as we reimagine what shopping looks like for the future. It shows what’s possible when innovation meets intention.”
