Walmart U.S. has appointed Judy Werthauser as executive vp and chief people officer after an extensive search, the company announced in an internal memo obtained by HomePage News.

Werthauser was chief experience officer with Five Below. She also was a board member at BJ’s Warehouse Club, a position that she resigned, according to BJ’s, which noted that it would appoint a successor in due course.

In her new role, Werthauser will supervise people-related efforts for all associates in the Walmart U.S. segment within stores, distribution centers, fulfillment centers and campus offices. She will lead the development of personnel strategy within Walmart U.S., focusing on career growth and associate opportunity, prioritizing well-being, driving a culture of belonging, and enhancing digital ways of working, the memo stated.

Werthauser becomes a member of Walmart U.S. president John Furner’s leadership team and a member of the parent company’s global people leadership team, Walmart indicated.
