With quarterly results upcoming from a range of retailers, Placer.ai looked at how foot traffic has fared at stores that are about to report earnings.
In looking at store traffic, Placer.ai reported:
- TJX Cos. First-quarter visits to T.J. Maxx increased 3.8% year-over-year, and visits were up 3.3% at Marshalls.
- Ross Dress For Less (pictured above). Visits increased 0.5% in the first quarter, while average visits per location fell 2.7%, which may be due to expansion efforts leading customers to shop different locations and newer stores.
- Macy’s. First-quarter visits increased 1.1% at namesake stores during the first quarter, while Bloomingdale’s visits grew 2.7%.
- Burlington. First-quarter visits gained 6.5%, while traffic advanced 9.2%in April.
- Nordstrom. Visits increased 3.3% as average visits per location grew 4.1%.
Placer.ai noted foot traffic was up across the off-price sector with the increases largely due to inflation-conscious shoppers seeking favored brands without spending a lot more money. In contrast, department store traffic differed by banner., according to Placer.ai.
