Meijer Getting Set To Unveil New Store Concept

Posted In: Retail Articles

On January 26, Meijer will open the first two of a new store concept it has developed: Meijer Grocery.

The stores will debut in Orion Township and Macomb Township, MI, near Detroit.

Meijer developed the new format to simplify the customer shopping experience, the company stated. The stores are designed with convenience and ease in mind including parking that wraps around a singular corner entrance to maximize the number of parking spaces near the door.

Meijer Grocery stores will fall between 75,000 and 90,000 square feet and feature all the products customers need for a weekly household shopping trip from produce, floral, grocery, meat, bakery and deli to pharmacy, health and beauty care, baby, pet and card and party. The stores will offer local brands across departments, Meijer pointed out, consistent with the company’s ongoing commitment to supporting local businesses.

Meijer opened its first Metro Detroit supercenter in 1974 and now has more than 45 stores in the community, including two examples of another concept it designates as a neighborhood market.

“By opening Meijer Grocery stores, we’re introducing a new way for our customers to shop that provides convenience, value and the great quality our customers have always come to expect from Meijer,” said Meijer president and CEO Rick Keyes said, in announcing the opening date. “Our customers’ needs are always evolving, and we’re committed to meeting them where they are. That’s why we’re excited to share this new Meijer experience with the Orion and Macomb Township communities.”
