Macy’s Adding More In-Store Backstage Operations

As it adds new formats to spur growth, Macy’s continues to expand its off-price operation, adding 10 new Backstage store-within-store locations throughout the United States opening from May through July.

With a treasure-hunt-oriented, ever-changing assortment of curated brands and unlooked-for merchandise at a great price, as the company characterizes it, Macy’s Backstage caters to shoppers seeking the latest styles and great deals. And that can’t hurt traffic to the Macy’s department stores that incorporate one of the off-price operations, even for value-oriented consumers who might not pick a department store as a first-choice option

The new Macy’s Backstage store-within-store locations span from 11,000 to 23,000 square feet and include young women’s, sportswear, men’s apparel, dresses, and luxury handbags as well as merchandise for the home, the company noted. Backstage operates a strategy focused on stocking products ordered in smaller quantities and more frequently, Macy’s noted, providing a fresh experience during each visit and, so, encouraging the next.

  • Macy’s Columbia Center, Kennewick, WA
  • Macy’s Orland Square, Orland Park, IL
  • Macy’s Chesterfield Towne Center, Chesterfield, VA 
  • Macy’s Firewheel Town Center, Garland, TX
  • Macy’s Irving Mall, Irving, TX


  • Macy’s Mall at Robinson, Pittsburgh, PA
  • Macy’s Southland, Cutler Bay, FL 
  • Macy’s Woodfield Mall, Schaumburg, IL
