Lidl is expanding again, focusing on the its existing East Coast markets and especially New York City.

Lidl’s website reported the deep discount supermarket operator opened two stores on June 28, one in Washington, DC, the other in Greensboro, NC. The company already has a multi-store presence in the DC metro area and central North Carolina.

Published reports have placed Lidl upcoming New York City store openings in Manhattan’s Chelsea neighborhood, as well as in the city’s Queens and Brooklyn boroughs.

Lidl opened its first Manhattan store in Harlem during the winter of 2022. The Chelsea location will be part of a MAG Partners project. Penn South, an affordable housing cooperative in Chelsea, selected MAG Partners to develop 335 Eighth Avenue into a mixed-income apartment building with ground-floor commercial space to include the Lidl store. The 190-unit building falls under the Affordable NY Program, with 30% of its units reserved for low- and middle-income residents, according to MAG Partners.

Lidl broke ground on the DC location, its first in the city, on January 8, 2022 in the Skyland Park Center, the company stated.

A HomePage News inquiry about details of its store opening plans was not returned by press time.
