The UPS Store exceeded all others in the recently-released Forbes Customer Service Study, while a number of major retailers made the list, some of which might come as surprises given they don’t fit the traditional model of hands-on customer assistance.
The top five also include Mary Kay, Chick-fil-a, USAA and REI.
Publix tucks in as number six in the top 100, and other major retailers on the Forbes list include Trader Joe’s at number 10 and Nebraska Furniture Mart at number 11. Although there is a bit of fall-off thereafter, Fareway Stores came in at number 24, Amazon at 31, Ace Hardware at 36, Dollar General’s pOpshelf operation at 41, H-E-B’s Central Market at 42, H-E-B itself at 43, Ulta Beauty Collection at 44 and Sephora at 48.
The 50-to-100 range included Kroger, for its pharmacy operation at 55, Wegmans at 56, Sheels All Sports at 58, Costco for pharmacy at 59, Five Below at 60, Safeway for pharmacy at 69, Tractor Supply at 74, Rooms To Go at 80, America Furniture Warehouse at 84, Nordstrom at 85, Jewel-Osco at 88, Instacard at 93, True Value Hardware at 94 and Meijer for pharmacy at 96.
Among major mass market retailers, Walmart hit 104 and was another retailer on the list for its pharmacy operation. Sam’s Club came in 122 in Forbes’ Superstore category, with BJ’s at 288 and Rural King Supply at 293. Under the department stores heading, only Kohl’s, at 209, joined Nordstrom on the Forbes list.
In the Home & Furnishings category, Williams-Sonoma fell in at 188, The Containers Store at 254 and Crate & Barrel at 261. Among discount stores, Ollie’s Bargain Outlet Holdings, at 236, followed pOpshelf and Five Below. Although Target Corp. didn’t make the 300-strong customer service list, its Shipt delivery operation came in at 294.
