eBay Introduces 'ReOpen Ready' For Post-Pandemic Shopping

As the COVID-19 pandemic begins to wane, eBay has introduced a new resource for shoppers who are attempting to return to their pre-crisis activities, one that includes a selection of products ranging from glassware to beach towels.

In addition, to illustrate shifts in spending across the United States, eBay is releasing a series of reports on what Americans are buying on its marketplace as they put COVID-related restrictions behind them.

The online marketplace has teamed up with a range of advisors, eBay noted, who are sharing guides for hosting parties, going to concerts, returning to an office, traveling and more at a time when some folks feel a little bit awkward resuming activities they’ve avoided for the past year and a half.

In one measure, eBay has developed a short film titled “ReOpen Ready,” with adventurer Coyote Peterson from the YouTube channel, Brave Wilderness, that portrays a family getting reacquainted with some seemingly basic tasks, equipping them with tips, tricks and tools for navigating resumed day-to-day activities, eBay stated.

Shoppers can visit eBayReOpenReady.com to find curated selections of cross-category products personally chosen by Internet influencers to help them deal with a variety of occasions.

The featured influencers and guides include:

  • Entertaining Ready: Vintage wine glasses and sequin baguette purses selected by Jessica Wang.
  • First Date Ready: Casual yet classy loafers, white jeans and Ray-Ban sunglasses selected by Anthony Urbano.
  • Front Row Ready: Special-edition sneakers, vintage wristwatches and classic trench coats selected by Courtney Mays.
  • Office Ready: Rolex watches, classic blazers and functional yet stylish travel bags selected by Law Roach.
  • Vacation Ready: Levi’s cutoff shorts, designer beach towels and chic swimsuits selected by Maeve Reilly.

The eBay ReOpen Reports will roll out as a monthly look at what Americans are buying, with the latest data indicating that the July 4th holiday, although historically not a traditional retail moment, is inspiring shoppers to celebrate, entertain, reunite and spend with friends for backyard entertainment, with cabana sales more than doubled month-over-month and those for Spikeball, bocce ball and party pool floats up year-over-year, eBay asserted. Consumers are preparing for overnight guests again, driving sales of air mattresses up 50% year-over-year and sofa bed sales to eight times those of home office desks. Also, collector and convertible cars saw dramatic spikes in searches versus a year ago.

On the eBay site, other home-related products under ReOpen Ready include candles, bar carts and water bottles.

“As restrictions lift coast to coast, we continue to see unprecedented trends across eBay’s top categories, from people re-investing in ways to express their personal style to preparing their homes for guests again,” said Charis Márquez, eBay VP/fashion at eBay. “No matter the adventure, only eBay offers shoppers the ability to find exactly what they’re looking for as they step out into the ‘great out there.'”
