eBay Continues Physical Store Push by E-Commerce Leaders

Posted In: Retail Articles

Online retailers continue to launch and expand physical store concepts, as is the case with eBay, which is opening the Luxury Exchange in New York City to capitalize on the skyrocketing value of authenticated luxury items by letting shoppers exchange goods from top brands like Gucci, Rolex and Van Cleef & Arpels.

As of now, shoppers can have their luxury items appraised and assigned a value they can use to shop the store’s inventory of designer watches, handbags and jewelry. Once shoppers find items within product categories for which they want to make an exchange, shoppers complete transactions and walk out of the store with their new possessions.

“It’s never been easier for luxury enthusiasts to refine their collections in a trusted environment, and we wanted to create an IRL experience that reflects what’s happening on eBay every day,” said Tirath Kamdar, general manager of Luxury at eBay.

Meanwhile, the Wayfair AllModern banner is preparing to open its second physical store location at Legacy Place in Dedham, Mass. on November 21. AllModern opened its first brick-and-mortar store in Lynnfield, Mass. earlier this year.

Amazon earlier opened its second Los Angeles-area Go store in Torrance, Calif. It has announced plans for a third area Amazon Go store in Woodland Hills, Calif. In addition, the company is seeking Zero Carbon Certification with the International Living Future Institute for all of the Amazon Go stores in the Los Angeles area. This includes the two new stores as well as the first Amazon Go store in Whittier, Calif., which opened in September and was the first of the format in the Los Angeles market.
