Doug Putman, a Canadian investor who has rescued several distressed, iconic retail brands, announced plans to launch 21 home stores occupying former Bed Bath & Beyond and buybuy Baby locations in five Canadian provinces this summer, according to published reports.

The forthcoming home stores — to operate under the Rooms + Spaces banner — will be led by Greg Dyer, formerly general manager of Bed Bath & Beyond Canada, per reports.

Putman’s firm Putman Investments Inc. is acquiring leases totaling more than 800,000 square feet, it was reported. Putnam in recent years has acquired Toys ‘R‘ Us Canada, Babies ‘R’ Us Canada, Sunrise Records, HMV in the U.K. and FYE in the U.S.

According to a press release, the Rooms + Spaces stores will cater to modern shoppers who want their homes to reflect their unique personalities and styles. The planned product range includes kitchenware, electrics, tableware, bath products, textiles and home decor.

Rooms + Spaces plans to open locations this summer in British Columbia, Alberta, Saskatchewan, Ontario and Newfoundland.
