Microban and Calphalon have collaborated on kitchen knives with built-in antimicrobial protection.

Calphalon and Microban said they have addressed the challenges of maintaining clean surfaces and sanitization by incorporating silver ion antimicrobial technology into the most common touch points — the handles — of Calphalon Class and Select by Calphalon knives. The Microban SilverShield technology begins working as soon as microorganisms come into contact with the handle, according to the companies.

“The Calphalon brand is extremely proud to partner with Microban to enhance our range of premium knives,” said Kris Malkoski, CEO of the Food Business Unit at Newell Brands. “We appreciate the importance of cleanliness in the kitchen, as well as product longevity, and incorporating Microban antimicrobial technology into our Calphalon Classic and Select by Calphalon knife sets will enable our consumers to enjoy the peace of mind of lasting protection.”

Gary Gagnon, director of business development at Microban, stated, “This new partnership with one of the industry leaders in fine kitchenware is particularly exciting – a view I know is shared with the wider team here at Microban.”

The knives are available now with an MSRP of $239.99.
