Home & Housewares Headline Time’s Best Inventions of 2023

Several home and housewares products are among the 200 new items recently selected as the Time Best Inventions of 2023.

Time editors and correspondents around the world evaluated online applications to make selections in several categories, including Food & Drink, Beauty, Wellness, Fitness and Reuse & Recycle. The judges considered a number of key factors, including originality, efficacy, ambition and impact.

Here are some of the home and housewares selections:

Food & Drink
GE Profile Smart Mixer

The GE Profile Smart Mixer features a built-in “smart scale” to weighs ingredients directly in the mixing bowl. An “auto sense” feature is designed to prevent undermixing or overmixing by sensing the torque changes in the motor The 11-speed mixer includes a emulsifying setting.

Spinn Pro Espresso Maker

The Wi-Fi-connected Spinn Pro all-in-one espresso maker is said to be the first commercially available coffeemaker to use centrifugal force, spinning at up to 5,000 revolutions per minute to oxygenate and push coffee through a perforated filter wall to brew hot and cold brew in 60 seconds.

Breville Joule Turbo Sous Vide

The faster-cooking update of the Joule Sous Vide heats water to the ideal temperature for cooking bag-sealed meats and other foods. The new app-connected model uses algorithmic math to constantly analyze real-time variables, such as water viscosity, to bring meat to a desired temperature in 30 minutes.

Dreamfarm Fluicer 

The Fluicer manual citrus juicer (pictured above) squeezed half a lime, lemon or orange from the sides and the top for more juice extraction. The unit folds flat for easier storage.

Dyson Airstrait

The Airstrait hair straightener for wet hair features a 100,000-plus RPM motor to blow 11.9 liters of hot air a second through 1.5-mm slots at a 45-degree angle to speed up the process while preventing hair damage that can be caused by traditional heated styling irons.

Owala FreeSip

Trove Brands’ stainless-­steel Owala FreeSip is designed to be leakproof while offering two drinking methods — a straw and a larger opening that conforms to the shape of the user’s mouth.

Reuse & Recycle

Mill’s deodorizing electronic trash can automatically heats food waste then grinds the dehydrated scraps to take up less space. The postal service retrieves the waste content as part of a Mill subscription service, and the company recycles the waste into food for chickens.

W&P Reusable Stretch Wrap

W&P’s silicone stretch wrap, at three milimeters thick, is said to be as thin as silicone can be without tearing. The reusable wrap is safe for oven, microwave, dishwasher and freezer, according to W&P.

Therabody RecoveryTherm Cube

Therabody’s latest muscle recovery tool is a compact wearable device that uses infrared and cryotherapy technology to deliver spot treatments ranging from 46°F to 109°F.

The Time Best of Inventions of 2023 included several “special mentions:” Airhood portable range hood; Flaus Electric Flosser; {access}ories toothbrush; Single Handed Grip Toggle; Mode Electric Toothbrush; Pairingware interlocking cup and plate; Bloom pour-over coffeemaker; Superkop manual espresso machine; S’well Ice Cream Chiller; and Cruz Blender Cap.
